Set up the first electrical client and job in AxiomBlue
- After checking worker and contracting permissions, add the customer and create a switchboard quote. Group installation scope, components and exclusions in quote sections and retain the accepted price.
- Convert acceptance to a job. Set Site Address, Estimated Duration and, on Professional, Required Skills; put the testing/documentation handover in Description and Tasks. Keep the authorised certification process separate.
- Record time and installed parts, inspect the invoice or Professional fixed-price claim, then approve and send the checked draft. Review a requested extra circuit as a separately priced Professional variation.
Start with the work you are authorised and equipped to deliver
Choose a practical starting service, such as residential repairs or a defined installation type. List the work you will refer elsewhere. Check the licence class, supervision, testing and certification requirements for that scope rather than treating every electrical job as interchangeable.
Check contracting approval separately from your trade qualification
Ask the regulator in your state or territory what the business entity and workers need before offering or carrying out the work. Victoria, for example, has Registered Electrical Contractor requirements alongside electrical worker licensing. That example is not a national licensing rule.

Make the business setup match the work you will sell
Use the Australian Government startup guide to work through structure, registrations, tax and insurance with the advisers you need. Check licences by activity and location through ABLIS and the relevant regulator. A business registration does not itself authorise regulated trade work.

Budget a working service operation, not just a toolbox
Build your own cost sheet for the vehicle, test equipment, stock, licensing, insurance, software and reserve cash. Distinguish one-off purchases from recurring costs. Include time for inspection, quotes, wholesaler visits, records and administration when calculating the work you can actually sell.
Put a repair through the entire handover
Illustrative first-job test: a customer requests replacement of a faulty fitting. Record the inspection and agreed scope, obtain approval for work outside it, retain the job and required test or certificate references, then check labour and parts before invoicing. Required regulatory documents still need the correct authorised process.
Make the next booking possible without reconstructing this one
Keep the site reference, customer decision, recorded work and invoice connected. In AxiomBlue, core jobs and individual scheduling are available on Free within usage limits; uploads need a paid plan. Professional adds crew skills, leave and variations. Software records support the process; they do not grant a licence or certify the installation.
Common questions
Questions about this process
Is an electrician’s licence enough to start contracting?
Check with your local regulator. Worker licensing and business contracting requirements can be separate; Victoria’s REC system is one example. Confirm the rules for your entity and location.
